A real estate agent might see a multi-generational household and think the solution is simply a big house with multiple bedrooms.
That may be perfect for some families, but probably not all.
Some families will want a house with a floor plan designed for multiple family dwelling.
Find out if they want a separate guesthouse, a casita, or a house with separate floors.
Don’t make assumptions about what will work for your client.
Be Culturally Sensitive-
Many multi-generational household in the United States are home to senior citizens from foreign countries.
It’s much more common outside of the United States for adults and their parents to live together.
Make sure your respectful of their customs as you search for their next home.
Know Your Listings-
While this rule always applies, it is especially useful when finding a home for a multi-generational household.
Senior citizens often have special needs concerning mobility.
Does your client need a home without stairs or an easily accessed entrance?
These are things many clients with elderly parents in the home will be looking for.
