4 Common Reasons Some Agents Fail

There’s a lot of reasons some folks don’t last long in real estate. Regardless of what you may have heard, it’s not an easy job. If you decide to take a run at real estate, you better be ready to work hard and you better have some guts or you won’t last long. Here are some of the more common reasons new agents fail early.

1.) They Can’t Handle Rejection-

A big part of real estate is putting yourself out there. It’s not always easy and you have to figure out what works for you when it comes to reaching out to potential customers and breaking the ice. But you have to be prepared for rejection. If you become a real estate agent, you’re going to hear it a lot. It’s not personal, and you have to be able to carry on without becoming gun shy. Get out there and prospect, and continue prospecting until you get some clients.

2.) They Won’t Define Their Niche-

What kind of client are you going to specialize in? While it’s not a good idea to limit potential clients, it never hurts to brand yourself as a specialist in dealing with particular a particular niche. You can seek further education and certifications to make you more knowledgeable when it comes to dealing with certain kinds of clients. For example, military personnel, multi-generational families, retired people, or even millennials. If you build a reputation for servicing a particular community, you can build your business on it.

3.) They Won’t Embrace Current Technology-

Get on Facebook, learn to use Twitter, and find some apps that make being a real estate agent easier. If you’re afraid of social media, you need to get over it. Social media has proven itself an invaluable tool for real estate professionals. And you need a smart phone. Don’t whip out your flip phone in front of a millennial client. There are all kinds of apps available for your smartphone that are designed to make your job as an agent easier. Look them up. No one want to work with a dinosaur that can’t communicate via modern technology. Get with the times or get passed by.

4.) They Won’t Keep In Touch-

If you aren’t reaching out to your past clients and keeping those relationships alive, you’re blowing it. Keep your name in their mind so when they do need to move again or have friends thinking about it, they call you. Word of mouth may not be as flashy as a well made Facebook page, but it’s priceless. Stay in your clients’ lives, even if it’s just to send a Christmas card.
