The millennials are all grown up. It doesn’t matter if you don’t know them, if you don’t understand them, or if you’re just scared of them, they are the future.

They are currently the biggest and fastest growing consumer demographic, and when it comes to real estate, they make up the vast majority of first time home buyers. And millennials want to do business with fellow millennials.

That means our industry needs to figure out how to get millennials interested in careers in real estate, and how to get them to stay for the long haul. Here are some ideas.

1.) Excite Them-

Millennials don’t want to go to work with a boring, stagnant company. They want to work at a dynamic company that’s willing to try new things. That means a lot of companies need to throw out the old playbook and start coming up with new ways to do business.

Think about craft beer brewers, coffee houses, and tech start ups. The workplace doesn’t get much more hip and fun than that! Can your business emulate them? Because you’re going to need to. Good luck.

2.) Speaking Of Tech Start Ups…-

Your company needs to stay on the cutting edge of technology related to real estate. That means apps for everything, remote business options, and easy communication.

Remember, while you may have learned about computers from Oregon Trail, millennials were born into a world with the internet and Angry Birds. Their mobile devices are their everything. Incorporate tech accordingly.

3.) Give Your Team A Long Leash-

Millennials don’t want to held down by nine to five jobs like their parents. They want to be able to move about freely and not have a boss breathing down their neck and watching their every move.

Offer millennials some autonomy to come and go as they please. This doesn’t mean you have to surrender authority, just don’t get so caught up in keeping tabs on your employees so long as they are performing.
