Career Success Tips: Managing Your Time

You’ve probably heard it said that time is your most valuable commodity.

When you can manage your time well, lots of other things fall into place.

The people who can’t seem to master time management end up feeling frazzled all the time, never really getting anything accomplished and always running behind.

As a real estate professional, time management is key to success.

Here are a few tips for managing your time that we hope will inspire you, whether you are struggling or knocking things out of the park. Either way, time management can always be improved upon!

1. Make a Plan 

If you have a plan, you will feel more in control of everything that is going on. Even if you have to deviate from it occasionally, it’s still there to give you that outline of what to expect.

2. Create a List 

You might think this is the same thing as a plan, but a daily to-do list is more specific.

Write down things that need to be done and rank them in order of what is most important.

Don’t allow yourself to get sidetracked by things that aren’t relevant.

3. Set the Pace 

When you pursue a career like real estate, you are essentially your own boss.

This means you have to set your own pace and stick to it. Don’t try to follow someone else’s lead.

However, there are successful people out there you can stand to learn something from.

4. Keep Focused

Don’t let yourself get distracted by things that may come up along the way.

Stick to the path you are on and keep your eye on the prize.

You can’t help everybody at the same time and you can’t be everything to everybody.

There’s always going to be someone who wants what you have and wants it for free.

Know that your services offer value and don’t get taken in by people who just want to take advantage of you.

Build the right relationships with clients so that you can ensure long-term success.

One day you will look back at your life and think about how you spent your time.

Real Estate Tips: How To Make Networking Work for You

Networking is an important part of career success and this applies to the real estate industry as well.

From growing your online influence to generating leads and enhancing opportunities for referrals, when done correctly, networking can have great impact on your business.

Real estate industry events are one way to network, but don’t limit yourself to these alone.

Since real estate is a people business, networking can pretty much be done anywhere people are.

The next time you have the opportunity to do some networking, consider the following:

1. Plan Ahead – 

Know who you are talking to.

If you are attending an event, have a game plan before you arrive. Set goals for the networking opportunity.

These will vary depending on your unique circumstances, but it might include something like:

– Try to speak to at least 5 people

– Get 10 business cards

– Research the other attendees so when you meet them, you’ll know something about them.

2. It’s Not About You – 

We’ve all been there. Stuck at a networking event with a person who only wants to talk about himself.

Don’t be that guy (or gal). Ask questions. Show that you are interested in what others have to say.

Be genuine and authentic and employ active listening.

You will make a much better impression if you make other people feel heard than if you try to do all the talking.

3. Look for an Opportunity to Help – 

This is where talking about yourself comes in.

As you are listening to what others have to say, look for opportunities to help.

Maybe they will mention that their child just went off to college and they need a smaller house.

Maybe they will say their family is growing and their current house isn’t big enough.

Maybe they are looking for a trustworthy service professional to help with some home repairs.

This is your chance to offer some valuable advice or insight that will help cement the connection.

The other person will come away from the interaction feeling like they got something out of it and you will have generated a new lead using a proven method.

4. Follow Up – 

This is probably the most important aspect of networking.

After you have made connections with different people, take the time to follow up. Reach out and remind them that you met.

The follow-up is your chance to share more information about yourself and your business.

Ask them if you may add them to your email newsletter list or share a link to your social media channels.

Don’t let a possible networking opportunity fall flat because you didn’t take the time to follow up.

How to Have a Better Career in Real Estate: Check Your Mindset

And for those in the real estate industry, these tips will help you enjoy a long run of success without getting tired out or burned out.

1. Watch Your Mouth

What we mean by this is, be careful what you say.

You might think this applies to what you say in conversations with others, but it actually has more to do with what you say to yourself.

Negative self-talk is detrimental to your overall well-being. Say positive things and you will feel more positive. Don’t tear yourself down with denigrating words. Lift yourself up by using positive affirmations that remind you of your good qualities.

2. Look Around You

You will likely become like the people you surround yourself with. Look around you…are your colleagues and friends positive or negative?

When you place yourself in more positive situations, you will feel upbeat. Consistently surrounding yourself with negative influences will only bring you down.

3. Keep on the Sunny Side 

We’ve all known those people who could find something to complain about no matter where they were or what scenarios were presented to them.

Are you one of those people?

It’s never too late to turn things around to have a happier career and ultimately, a happier life.

If you are finding that you must deal with these negative people, try to give them something positive to focus on. Ask them to share one positive thing they have to be grateful for. Sometimes it just takes focusing in on the good to lose sight of the bad.

4. Feed Your Soul 

We mean this both literally and figuratively.

Take time to nourish yourself by enjoying a good meal with pleasant company.

Stop working long enough to have time with family or friends. Laugh. Simplify your schedule when possible.

Spend a few minutes reading a good book or just relaxing.

This will allow you to care for yourself so that you can come back to work refreshed and renewed.

5. Find Positive Influences 

Mentors are a great way to have more success in a real estate career.

And if you are far along in your career and have wisdom to share, consider becoming a mentor yourself.

As you are growing and building your personal brand, think about others who you admire and take inspiration from them.

Positive people can help you see new solutions to old challenges.
