Real Estate Tips: How To Make Networking Work for You

Networking is an important part of career success and this applies to the real estate industry as well.

From growing your online influence to generating leads and enhancing opportunities for referrals, when done correctly, networking can have great impact on your business.

Real estate industry events are one way to network, but don’t limit yourself to these alone.

Since real estate is a people business, networking can pretty much be done anywhere people are.

The next time you have the opportunity to do some networking, consider the following:

1. Plan Ahead –

Know who you are talking to.

If you are attending an event, have a game plan before you arrive. Set goals for the networking opportunity.

These will vary depending on your unique circumstances, but it might include something like:

– Try to speak to at least 5 people

– Get 10 business cards

– Research the other attendees so when you meet them, you’ll know something about them.

You can find more on our other post: “5 Tips for Real Estate Networking Success

2. It’s Not About You –

We’ve all been there. Stuck at a networking event with a person who only wants to talk about himself.

Don’t be that guy (or gal). Ask questions. Show that you are interested in what others have to say.

Be genuine and authentic and employ active listening.

You will make a much better impression if you make other people feel heard than if you try to do all the talking.

3. Look for an Opportunity to Help –

This is where talking about yourself comes in.

As you are listening to what others have to say, look for opportunities to help.

Maybe they will mention that their child just went off to college and they need a smaller house.

Maybe they will say their family is growing and their current house isn’t big enough.

Maybe they are looking for a trustworthy service professional to help with some home repairs.

This is your chance to offer some valuable advice or insight that will help cement the connection.

The other person will come away from the interaction feeling like they got something out of it and you will have generated a new lead using a proven method.

4. Follow Up –

This is probably the most important aspect of networking.

After you have made connections with different people, take the time to follow up. Reach out and remind them that you met.

The follow-up is your chance to share more information about yourself and your business.

Ask them if you may add them to your email newsletter list or share a link to your social media channels.

Don’t let a possible networking opportunity fall flat because you didn’t take the time to follow up.

If you are serious about taking your real estate career to the next level, consider networking as a way to grow your brand and generate new leads.

Big Block Realty Radio: Bravo’s Million Dollar Listings Broker Josh Altman Interview, Part 2

It’s been said that real estate is not a science, it’s an art. Each real estate deal is different. From the buyers and sellers to the property on down to the minute details of the deal…there are no cookie cutter real estate deals.

That’s why it’s so important for a real estate broker or agent to have a great understanding of the real estate industry. This is what allows you to handle each situation that might arise as a professional.

One part of the real estate process is making deals. Negotiation skills are not something we’re born with. They have to be strengthened and cultivated with practice and experience.

For Josh Altman, a top broker and star of Bravo’s hit reality show Million Dollar Listing, negotiating is just another part of a day at the office. But Josh has been doing this for a few years.

We got lots of questions for Josh via social media, especially regarding negotiating.

Whether you are just starting out in your real estate career or even considering a new career with Big Block Realty, we know you will learn some great things from our interview with Josh.

As a former college football player, Josh says he has lots of pressure staying calm under pressure. He was a kicker at Syracuse University and says he had to have “ice water in his veins.”

Apparently that has really paid off for him during the development of his real estate career.

We asked Josh to share some of his best negotiation advice for real estate.

He said, “You have to know your place in the negotiation. If you don’t have the upper hand, you have to figure out how to get it. Talking more in the negotiation process is not a good thing. Don’t rush it and take in the whole situation before you jump in.”

“Becoming A Champion” – By Big Block Realty

And The Winner Is…

Big Block Realty! We were voted “San Diego’s Best Real Estate Brokerage” by the Union Tribune. The yearly “San Diego’s Best Readers poll” encourages readers to nominate and vote for their favorite San Diego places, things to do and services. Readers nominate their favorites in 78 catagories and this year Big Block Realty was named the winner as Best Real Estate Brokerage.

It’s a true honor be recognized by the people as San Diego’s best real estate brokerage. It really validates how our business model puts both our agents and clients in the best possible position. Winning this prestigious award has also allowed us to reflect on the sacrifice and the persistence it takes to run your business at a high level.Think-Big-Block

Success of any kind requires both sacrifice and persistence.

To be a champion in any area of your life there is a sacrifice to be made and a price to pay. The price is either measured in time or resources and to achieve the results you want in any area of your life, you must be willing to invest your time or resources, or both.

To be a great real estate professional you have to invest your time learning laws, understanding contracts, practicing scripts, listing presentations, and buyer interviews. You must prospect and follow up regularly. Invest in training, coaching, audio programs, and seminars to give you the tools you need but don’t have today. These “investments” are always designed to grow your business.

Along with sacrifice comes persistence which is crucial to ultimate success in life. The first step in mastering persistence is the ability to decide, and then have the clarity of decision that you will follow through OR ELSE. Start by selecting one thing or task you need to do today. Then make sure you complete it before the end of the day. Don’t ever end your day before you follow through on your decision.

Try doing one new thing every day to grow your business and let us know how it goes!
