Some great advice he gave was “don’t be afraid to throw out multiple offers on properties.” Josh went on to say that it’s important to buy smart, not emotionally.

This is great advice because buying and selling real estate is such an emotional process for consumers. It’s easy to get wrapped up in the process, but a smart buyer will always end up getting a better deal than someone who allows their emotions to dictate their behavior.

One part of the real estate process is making deals. Negotiation skills are not something we’re born with. They have to be strengthened and cultivated with practice and experience.

For Josh Altman, a top broker and star of Bravo’s hit reality show Million Dollar Listing, negotiating is just another part of a day at the office. But Josh has been doing this for a few years.

We got lots of questions for Josh via social media, especially regarding negotiating.

As a former college football player, Josh says he has lots of pressure staying calm under pressure. He was a kicker at Syracuse University and says he had to have “ice water in his veins.”

He said, “You have to know your place in the negotiation. If you don’t have the upper hand, you have to figure out how to get it. Talking more in the negotiation process is not a good thing. Don’t rush it and take in the whole situation before you jump in.”
