6 Tips for Staying Safe On the Job

Big Block Realty wants all our agents to have the latest helpful tools to increase their success.

Learning how to stay safe on the job is vital for real estate professionals.

Building a successful career with a 100% commission real estate business is a great and rewarding experience, but an agent must never forget that their safety on the job is paramount and comes before making the sale.

SAFETY FIRST red Rubber Stamp over a white background.

Two real estate agents were attacked in Florida earlier this month highlighting the need for agents to exercise caution and maintain situational awareness on the job. Keep some basic safety tips in mind and have a plan when you’re out in the field. Make sure you come home to your loved ones safe and sound at the end of the day.

1.) Trust Your Gut-

When you get a bad feeling about a person or a situation, you should listen to it. Those gut feelings are what kept your caveman ancestors alive, and they’ll do the same for you. Don’t put someone else’s feelings ahead of your personal safety. Politely excuse yourself, and get out of there immediately.

2.) Meet Clients In The Office First-

Have clients come by the office for your initial meeting prior to showing them a property. Make sure your co-workers see them, and even introduce them to at least one of them.

3.) Get Their Vitals-

Have clients fill out an information sheet and get a copy of their driver’s license. Record the make and model of their vehicle and get their license plate details.

4.) The Buddy System-

Take a co-worker on a showing or have your spouse or a friend join you. Having backup is always a good idea.

5.) Eyes On-

Don’t let clients get behind you. Keep them in your field of vision at all times and never let them slip into your blind spots. Know where the exits are in a house for quick escape routes, and be prepared to defend yourself if you need to.

6.) Check In/Out-

Whenever you go to a showing, make sure someone knows where you’re going and approximately what time you’ll be back. Make sure they know to raise the alarm if you don’t return on schedule.

Remember to stay safe out there.

4 Ways being an Agent isn’t all Fun and Games

Big Block Realty wants all our agents to have the latest helpful tools to increase their success.

Being a real estate agent is a rewarding career, but it’s not all fun and games.

Building a successful career with a 100% commission real estate business is all about learning how to roll with the punches and take everything in stride. The good, and the bad.

Sometimes, being a real estate agent is tough. Things don’t always go smooth and the people you work with can be challenging. You’re going to get stressed. After all, if you aren’t selling houses, you’re going to lose your home, your car, your spouse, and your kids won’t go to college, right? Take it down a notch. You’re going to be fine. All agents experience times on the job where they just want to quit and join the merchant marines. See if you can relate.

1.) Open House Fail-

It sucks when you manage to get the family and the pets out of the house for a few hours and you only get a couple of visitors. Or even none. It happens. Just remember, even if you don’t get a great turn out, every open house is a chance to network. And all that quiet time is great for catching up on your emails and returning calls. Or catching up on your favorite shows.

2.) Client Cooperation-

Sometimes trying to get a client’s house ready to show is a Sisyphean ordeal. You can’t seem to even get them to take the trash out, much less patch the holes in the walls where the kids played darts. If you can’t get them to come around, maybe you can recommend them to a fellow agent you secretly want to suffer.

3.) Money-

You like it. You need it. But you don’t always have as much as you’d like. Be prepared for lean times as you get started in real estate. But you’ll level out. Just be ready to eat some Ramen for a while. Or have a very understanding and patient spouse who gives you an allowance.

4.) Pacing-

The life of a real estate agent can be boring one day and nuts the next. Be ready to move fast, spend lunch behind the wheel, and be at folks beck and call.

Big Block Realty wants its agents to learn to use the helpful tools that will increase their success.

Consider Big Block Realty if you would like an opportunity for a career with a 100% commission real estate brokerage!

3 Real Estate Agent Stereotypes that will Make You Giggle

At Big Block Realty, we know being a real estate agent isn’t always easy. Sometimes it can get pretty rough out there, and the world isn’t always fair.

Big Block Realty wants all our agents to have the latest helpful tools to increase their success.

Building a reputation for a 100% commission real estate business is about more than just making sales. Sometimes, it’s about being able to laugh it off and drive on.

Real estate agents get stereotyped as much as any other profession. You may find that some of the most common are more true than others, but they’re always good for a chuckle. See if you’ve been able to live up to any of these common stereotypes since you’ve been on the job.

1.) Real Estate Agents Are Worse Than Used Car Salesmen-

Tell someone you meet at a Christmas party you’re a real estate agent and watch them flee before you like you have the plague. People assume we’re always on the job, always look for the next client.

This is somewhat true, but we’re still human beings and like to talk about politics and religion as much as the net guy or gal. Sometimes, it’s nice to just enjoy a scotch at a party and not say a word about the housing market.

2.) Real Estate Agents Love A Good Motivational Speaker-

Most of us got into this business because we’re good with people. We don’t need professionals to teach us how to get ourselves out of bed and face the day. We don’t need to pay a bunch of loud-mouths a lot of our hard earned money to school us on “how to make it happen.”

We’re good at sales and we’re good with people. We’re real estate agents. We don’t need cheerleaders.

3.) Real Estate Is A Fall Back Career-

This is somewhat true. A lot of people looking to make a career change try real estate and bring their skills from their prior experience with them. And a lot of them do great and find it a great fit. But there are just as many young people getting their start in the world who decide it’s right for them, too.

But is there something inherently wrong with being fifty-five, ditching a job you’ve hated for twenty-five years, and becoming a real estate agent? Nope. Not in the slightest.

At Big Block Realty, we want each and every one of agents to have the helpful tools that will increase their success. Want to begin a rewarding career with an integrity driven, 100% commission real estate brokerage?

Then Big Block Realty might be the place for you! A career in real estate requires customer service skills like no other career.

Big Block Realty wants all our agents to have the latest helpful tools to increase their success.

Building a reputation for a 100% commission real estate business is about more than just making sales. It’s about understanding what our customers want in their new home.

The old fashioned backyard shed used to just be a place to store the lawnmower and weedeater. But these days, the shed is a versatile feature that can add a little something special to any backyard.

No longer just a place to store tools, stack firewood, or spank bad kids, the modern shed is becoming quite the hip selling point thanks to its versatility and style.

People are finding all kinds of great uses for the ubiquitous backyard shed today. They can be everything from a tiny backyard pub to a much needed office space.

The only real limitations are the owner’s imagination. Here are some of the ways the old shed is getting a makeover today.

1.) Backyard Pubs-

A new hot trend in backyard entertainment is the pub-shed. And it’s easy to see why. Decorate your shed in the style of your favorite bar and put in some stools and a television and you’re set to entertain yourself or a group of friends.

2.) Office Space-

Work from home? Then this might be just the thing you’re looking for.

Space is precious, and if you don’t feel like tying up a room in the house, think about how easy it would be to convert a shed to functional office space right in the backyard.

Or, if you’re not the DIY type, companies specializing in custom sheds are popping up all over the country.

3.) Art Studio-

Sheds are perfect for building an art studio. Rig up some lighting and build your perfect workspace secluded from the main house.

Add a little patio area for working outside on sunny days. The shed is a simple solution for every busy artist looking for a way to work at home.

Diverse Skills for Real Estate Agents

Big Block Realty wants all our agents to have the latest helpful tools to increase their success.

Having a diverse skill set is vital for real estate professionals.

Building a successful career with a 100% commission real estate business is all about learning the skills necessary to get the job done.

Real estate agents need all kinds of skills to do their jobs effectively. An outside observer may think all agents need are people skills and the ability to make sales, but agents know it takes more than that to make it in real estate today. Here are a few skills it doesn’t hurt to have if you’re in real estate.

Know Something About The Law-

Real estate agents don’t need to have a law degree, but having a basic knowledge of the law pertaining to the job is important. Know something about housing and real estate codes, and don’t give out answers you’re not 100% sure about when dealing with clients.

Understand Basic Marketing Strategies-

You’re not just marketing a property, but the neighborhood, the city, the schools, even the nearby shopping mall. Be able to get the attention your clients need to sell their house. Know something about internet marketing, canvassing, open houses, radio ads, television ads, and billboards.

Tech-

If you want to make it in real estate these days you better have an understanding of modern tech. Especially if you want to do business with millennials. Social media is everything. If you’re not comfortable with it, you’d better find a way to get there, or you’re not going to last.

Know How To Work With A Team-

Knowing how to work well with others is vital for real estate pros. You’ve got to build a network of people who can help you on the job. Without them, you’re going to get swallowed up by the work when you get busy. Get help and learn to delegate to dependable people.

Communication Skills-

Understanding your client’s needs it vital. Sometimes this isn’t easy. You need to be able to extract what it is they want in a home so you’re not burning through dozens of listings. Figure out their needs and do your best to guide them through the process.
