Learning how to stay safe on the job is vital for real estate professionals.
Building a successful career with a 100% commission real estate business is a great and rewarding experience, but an agent must never forget that their safety on the job is paramount and comes before making the sale.
Two real estate agents were attacked in Florida earlier this month highlighting the need for agents to exercise caution and maintain situational awareness on the job. Keep some basic safety tips in mind and have a plan when you’re out in the field. Make sure you come home to your loved ones safe and sound at the end of the day.
1.) Trust Your Gut-
When you get a bad feeling about a person or a situation, you should listen to it. Those gut feelings are what kept your caveman ancestors alive, and they’ll do the same for you. Don’t put someone else’s feelings ahead of your personal safety. Politely excuse yourself, and get out of there immediately.
2.) Meet Clients In The Office First-
Have clients come by the office for your initial meeting prior to showing them a property. Make sure your co-workers see them, and even introduce them to at least one of them.
3.) Get Their Vitals-
Have clients fill out an information sheet and get a copy of their driver’s license. Record the make and model of their vehicle and get their license plate details.
4.) The Buddy System-
Take a co-worker on a showing or have your spouse or a friend join you. Having backup is always a good idea.
5.) Eyes On-
Don’t let clients get behind you. Keep them in your field of vision at all times and never let them slip into your blind spots. Know where the exits are in a house for quick escape routes, and be prepared to defend yourself if you need to.
6.) Check In/Out-
Whenever you go to a showing, make sure someone knows where you’re going and approximately what time you’ll be back. Make sure they know to raise the alarm if you don’t return on schedule.
