When carried out correctly, farming a sphere of influence and prospecting to increase that sphere can yield great results.

These traditional methods require a lot of planning and a lot of hard work.

Creating a website or a social media presence also requires hard work and planning, but the strategies that lead to success with these methods are a little bit different.

Many times, real estate professionals attempt to find lead sources by looking for the path of least resistance…i.e. Internet leads.

Being more efficient is a good thing so if you can do something the easy way to get results, by all means.

The issue we see that often arises with this method is it lacks a certain long-term strategy.

Have you ever noticed how professional sports organizations seem to focus on creating winning teams in the shortest possible amount of time? Of course they do…they can’t afford to put off success. Too much is riding on their wins.

Perhaps they have put all their eggs in one basket, so to speak. All the pressure is on the seasoned veterans who may only have a couple of seasons left to play.

But without putting in the time and effort to train the young recruits, these teams often end up in a bad spot when the veterans are out and there is nobody who can replace them.

So just what does this have to do with real estate and lead generation? A short term tactic is not a long-term strategy.

You don’t want your career to be relying solely on the service of another organization. This leaves you with no control over cost or longevity.

By diversifying your lead sources, you will experience greater long-term success as a real estate professional.

Social media will allow you to reach a vast number of people. But there are still individuals who haven’t embraced social media. Postcards, flyers, and community events might be the way to go for these folks.

There’s also blogging as a possible lead generation option. Creating quality content and establishing yourself as a thought leader in your industry is a great way to grow your sphere of influence.

By creating an online identity as well as a name for yourself in the business community, you can generate a broader path to revenue with long-term positive effects.

  2. Listen – It’s not enough just to talk…you have to use social media to listen and respond. By participating in the conversation, you can grow your prospects using social media.
  3. Have Fun – Use social media to show your personality, especially your fun side. This will be attractive to people and help to get the ball rolling to create those lasting relationships.
  4. Ask Questions & Engage People – This is similar to listening, but it’s where you truly engage with people. This is the main reason to use social media for business. Don’t miss out on valuable opportunities to connect authentically. This can start with likes and comments, but the more you do this, the more connections you will have.
  5. Create a Custom Fan page – This is a page for a business that directs visitors to “Like” it upon visiting. Getting more likes should be an important part of your long-term social media strategy. So take the time to create a custom page so they will push like as soon as they arrive.
