Improve Your Real Estate Blog with these Simple Tips

ID-10075895You’ve heard the phrase “you can’t teach an old dog new tricks” but what about an old blog? Maybe you’re a veteran in the real estate social media marketing and blogging arena. Perhaps you started a blog for your real estate business a couple of years ago and have been plugging away now for awhile.

Are you seeing the results you’d like from your real estate blog? Are you seeing any results? When was the last time someone told you they read a post on your blog? When was the last time you stirred up a great conversation that started from content you shared on your blog?

If the answer is never (or a long time ago), we have some easy tips for you to take your real estate blog from drab to fab. And if you are a new real estate professional or just new to the social media game, these tips will help you as well!

1. Create an editorial calendar

This seems like a complicated process, but it’s really very simple. Look at a yearly calendar and think about what types of content would be appropriate during each month.

If you just blog once a week, you only have to think of 52 topics; 12 topics if you only blog monthly. No matter when you decide to blog, it’s important that you have a plan.

Consider what subject matter is interesting to readers during different months of the year. Look at data about housing sales and when people are most likely to move.

Think like a content marketer and it will pay off in the end for the success of your blog.

2. Consider SEO and how you are driving traffic

An SEO strategy will help you see more traffic. This can be achieved by making your posts Google-friendly. In order to do this, you need to let your keywords do the work for you.

Each time you write a blog post, think about incorporating keyword phrases in the headline and opening paragraph. You should also link to another blog post about a similar topic.

3. Encourage readers to subscribe

Not only ask your readers to subscribe to your blog, but also make it easy for them to do so. Offer the option to subscribe by email or RSS feed. You could also build your blog posts as a newsletter with other content that readers can look forward to receiving on a regular basis.

Another option is to create your own blog app that pushes notifications to your readers mobile devices when there is new content.

It’s important to build an email subscribers list so don’t neglect this part of your marketing strategy.

4. Share More Content, More Often

Quality is always better than quantity when it comes to blogging, but quantity matters too. Your blog will only grow as far as you let it so try to post more frequently as a way to gain more readers.

When you share content often, it lets Google know to keep your blog on its radar. At least once a week is a good rule of thumb, but posting even more is better!

Also important is to consider sharing different types of content. Change up the length of your posts and share videos and images too. This keep your readers entertained and engaged and it keeps your blog from getting stale with the same format over and over.

5. Guest Posts

A good way to increase your blog traffic is with guest posts. One type of guest post is when you allow guest writers to provide content to your blog. This allows them to get exposure while providing valuable content to your audience. Guest contributors are also likely to share their content on your blog with their audience so it increases the visibility of your blog.

Another type of guest post opportunity is to submit your own content to other blogs. This also helps to give you more credibility and exposure while reaching a wider audience.

When you implement some (or all) of these tactics into your blogging plan, your real estate blog will grow and thrive!

A blog is a powerful content marketing tool for your brand. Don’t give up on it! Put in the time and effort that it takes to be successful.

How Real Estate Professionals Can Use “Big Data”

ID-100175372You’ve probably heard lots of talk recently about ‘big data.’

The retail industry has benefited from having big data for some time now, but many real estate professionals believe that our industry will soon be able to benefit from big data as well.

Unlike buying things like gas or groceries on a very regular basis, most home buyers and sellers only participate in the real estate industry every 5 to 10 years…some even less frequently.

Having data that sheds insight on consumers’ long-term life decisions would prove to be very useful and valuable to real estate professionals, brokers and other members of our industry.

Big data could allow real estate professionals to have a greater understanding of when past clients might consider selling or refinancing their homes.

It could also create a way for realtors to anticipate when a client might decide to downsize his or her home or even buy vacation property.

With big data strategies in place, real estate professionals could capitalize on the most opportune moments to send marketing content and messages to their clients.

In the world of marketing, content is is king but so is timing. Facebook has already announced that it will soon begin allowing advertisers to target consumers based on their offline shopping behaviors.

While there is still much to be developed in the realm of big data for the real estate industry, there are a few things you can begin doing now to get the maximum impact of your customer data.

First, you should be collecting customer data. If you aren’t doing this, begin doing so immediately. This should be everything from customer names, addresses and emails to birthdays and other particulars.

Next, take it to the next level while collecting & mining data. This means you should look for the place where different aspects of your business are connected. Then track the data and use it to establish your long-term email marketing strategy.

For example, you might want to create an exit survey for your clients. Collect basic information about what they believe their future home buying behaviors and plans might be. Connect with them based on that, rather than bombarding them with information when it isn’t relevant to them.

Remember to use common sense. If a customer just bought a home from you, don’t send them messages that contain new listings. Create content that is pertinent to them instead. This might include things like info about taxes, home warranties, refinancing and home improvement.

Customer data is valuable to you, especially if you can use it to better understand your clients’ behaviors. This is an important part of the marketing process because it can help you create your messages and improve the timing in which you distribute them. When you target the right audience within the right context, your business can grow and thrive.

Real Estate Business Tips: Documenting Expenses For Taxes

Real Estate Business Tips: Documenting Business-Related Expenses for Tax Purposes

This is for informational purposes only and should not be considered Tax advice, please consult your CPA for additional information.

Real estate professionals wear many hats.

One important part of being a real estate professional is generating sales and expanding your network to grow leads.

While growing a business, it is important to consider your online brand and how you can build brand equity using a variety of tools and strategies.

Another side of the real estate business is managing the finances.

Realtors often incur a variety of business-related expenses in the course of their careers. Some of these include travel, meals and other expenses related to client relations, etc.

While these business expenses can be deductible on annual tax returns, it is important for real estate professionals to ensure they take proper steps to document them.

There is no reason to attract suspicions of the IRS and the following tips will help real estate professionals and other business individuals who might incur business-related deductions cover all bases to keep things in order.

Keeping all this data is essential. Take a look at this other post we wrote on “How Real Estate Professionals Can Use Big Data

Each time you have a business-related expense, remember to document the following:

1. Date –

Most often, the date an expense was incurred will be printed on a receipt or credit card slip. If paying cash, you might want to create a receipt or slip of your own as a reminder. Cancelled checks are also a way to track the date of certain expenses.

2. Amount –

Make sure to document exactly how much was spent. Don’t forget to include tax and tip.

3. Location –

Keep detailed records of the nature and place each business-related expense took place. It’s easy to forget after some time has passed so this is important information to maintain regularly.

4. Business Purpose –

In order for an expense to be business-related, it must be incurred for your business.

Create a record of the purpose of each business expense so that you could show exactly why and how the expense was necessary.

This might include information such as that the expense was needed to obtain new business, to encourage existing business relationships, or to market your products and services. If the purpose of a meal was to discuss business dealings, document that as well.

5. Business Relationship –

This has to do with expenses where entertainment or meals are involved. Keep a list of names of the people involved, their occupations and a record of how they are related to your business.

This type of record keeping isn’t complicated, but it does require diligence.

Keeping organized will only help you when it is time to file your taxes or work with an accounting professional.

A few examples of items you can keep to show business expenses include:

– receipts, credit card statements, or cancelled checks

– receipts in conjunction with appointment book/online calendar entries

– appointment book/online calendar entries (for expenses less than $75)

This post, inspired by a previous entry at Inman.com, is not intended to replace the advice of a certified accounting professional.

The Secret to Getting More Real Estate Clients

ID-100144042The web is full of tips and tricks for real estate career success.

Here at Big Block Realty, we are committed to providing our agents with the knowledge and advice that will help them take their careers to the next level.

To be successful in real estate, you need clients. Lots of clients.

You know they are out there, but sometimes it can feel like an overwhelming task to try and pin them down.

Since real estate is really about working with people, it’s important to see every person you come into contact with as a potential client. It’s not like all the would-be clients are out there hiding from you.

Think about all the human interactions you’ve had today.

You might have started out saying good morning to your neighbor when you got the morning paper.

Perhaps, then you stopped to pick up a coffee or your dry cleaning. Then lunch at a restaurant where you chatted with several different people. Drinks after work or maybe a trip to the gym.

All through the day, you are meeting and talking to people. There’s no reason that some (or all) of them can’t be your clients.

Here’s the secret to finding and keeping clients:

People like to work with people they know, sooo…

– Get out there and get to know some more people.

– Tell them what you do for a living.

– Listen to what they have to say.

– Look for opportunities to offer them a helpful hint or advice.

When you begin to create these relationships and foster connections with people, you’ll be amazed at how your business changes.

As you begin building your relationships, it will greatly affect your lead generation over the long-term.

Here at Big Block Realty, we feel strongly about being invested in our agents’ success. We are California’s leading 100% commission real estate brokerage and as part of our team, you will keep your entire commission while still enjoying all the perks of working with an industry leader such as Big Block.
